Using our free PDF printable template, children can create an adorable dog made entirely from heart shapes. The template can be used in two different ways: by cutting out the pieces from colorful cardstock or construction paper, or by coloring the template itself with crayons, markers, or paints. Both options result in a cute and creative paper dog that kids will love making.

Option 1: Using Colored Paper or Cardstock
Print the free template on white paper.
Carefully cut out the following parts from the template: one large heart, one half-heart, two eyes, one small heart, one circle, and one bow.
Use these pieces as stencils to trace and cut from colored paper or cardstock:
- Two large hearts (for the dog’s head and body).
- Two half-hearts (for the dog’s ears).
- One small red heart (for the tongue).
- One small black heart (for the nose).
- One bow in any color.
- One circle in any color (for the bow’s center).
Glue the two large hearts together – this forms the dog’s body and head.
Attach the half-hearts to the head as ears.
Glue the small black heart as the nose.
Glue the small red heart as the tongue.
Add the eyes.
Attach the bow to the head, then glue the circle in the middle of the bow.
Use a black marker to draw whiskers and little claws on the paws.
Your colorful paper heart dog is ready!
Option 2: Coloring the Template
Print the template on white paper.
Color all the parts however you like. In our example, we created a Dalmatian-style dog by drawing black spots on the big hearts (head and body) and on the half-hearts (ears).
- Small black heart = nose.
- Small red heart = tongue.
- Bow and circle = red.
Carefully cut out all the pieces: two large hearts, two half-hearts, two small hearts, the eyes, and the bow pieces.
Glue the two large hearts together to form the body and head.
Attach the ears.
Add the nose and eyes.
Glue the red tongue in place.
Attach the bow to the head.
Use a black marker to add whiskers and claws.
Your Dalmatian-style heart dog is complete!
